The Secret of Success?
For over 25 years I have taught hundreds of MindStore courses and on every one I have enthusiastically recommended Napoleon Hill’s wonderful book Think and Grow Rich. Napoleon was encouraged to write the book by Andrew Carnegie, who is believed to be the richest man who ever lived.
Carnegie arrived in New York City in 1848 aged 13 off a boat from Glasgow with his almost penniless parents and immediately got to work sweeping out an office building. What really impresses and makes him truly exceptional and extraordinary, (and maybe even defines him as one of the greatest individuals to walk this earth) was that at the age of 65 he set out over the remaining 18 years of his life to charitably give away over 90% of his entire wealth.
It seems to me that such a person would be worth learning about, particularly if he was willing to share the secrets of how he achieved his success. He did and much of them are featured in Napoleon’s book.
Napoleon teases his readers right at the beginning by alluding to the notion that the secret of all success is within the book, and that it will jump out at the reader from the page. However if they are not successful in finding the secret he advised that they read the book again. I have met hundreds of the 20 million people who have read it (not folks who attended my courses) and don’t remember the key chapter and the special technique therein that Carnegie shared with Napoleon. I have taught a version of it on most of my courses and the vast majority of the hundreds of thousand who have heard me explain how to use it get really inspired. Most immediately grasp its potential for them intellectually yet very rarely get round to actually using it.
Carnegie explained that he used this powerful technique every night before sleep. It is fair to assume that he may not have been aware of meditation techniques or that what he was doing was in effect a form of active mindfulness. The purpose of his method was not to create calm or still his mind through the recital of a mantra, it was an active approach that fully capitalised on the extraordinary thinking capabilities finding that calm can provide.
It is without doubt the most powerful technique within the extensive MindStore toolkit. However getting participants to use it regularly has always been a challenge. A huge part of The Line in The Sand virtual retreat is, with my guidance, establishing a habit of working with this tool over 30 days, and accessing all the benefits that Carnegie exploited through his adult life.
The Line in the Sand is a 30 day virtual retreat, created and narrated by Jack Black. You can access the retreat on MindStore’s new digital platform MindStore Online in your browser or through the companion app on your mobile device.
